Everybody loves Ohio for a getaway.

Vacations can be expensive, especially if you’re flying. And even though gas prices are high, many are opting for a road trip this summer.

According to a study from personal finance website WalletHub, Ohio is actually a pretty good place for that summer road trip, ranking at No. 6 in the country.

The study reports that 80% of American adults are planning a road trip this summer – and some things about the Buckeye State may be drawing people in.

Ohio ranks at No. 1 in having the lowest average cost of car repairs (this may shock anyone who has ever had to get their car repaired in Ohio), No. 12 for overall cost, No. 16 in activities and No. 27 in safety.

Ohio also is No. 5 for having lowest price of a three-star hotel room, No. 16 in car thefts per capita and No. 19 for the average price of gas.

Road trips play an essential part of summer in Ohio. Starting a journey in Cincinnati, there are plenty of charming small towns, a surprising number of beaches, secluded forest getaways and plenty of camping spots.

WalletHub’s rankings are based on 32 key metrics. Find information on the report’s methodology here.
