Election season is never over, it seems. Fortunately, this one has nothing to do with political parties.

Voting is open for the 2022 Major League Baseball All Star Game, with a number of Cincinnati Reds players on the ballots. Through June 30, fans can vote for their favorite players at each position within both the National League and the American League to advance in the contest and possibly participate in the All Star Game, which will be held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 30.  Top vote getters from this round will move to a second round of voting to determine which players will start the game at each position. If a player gets the most votes in their category, they’ll automatically become that position’s starter.

Cincinnati Reds players on the All Star Game ballot are:

  • first base: Joey Votto
  • second base: Jonathan India
  • third base: Brandon Drury
  • shortstop: Kyle Farmer
  • catcher: Tyler Stephenson
  • designated hitter: Mike Moustakas
  • outfielders: Tyler Naquin, Tommy Pham, Nick Senzel

Fans can vote up to five times per day per email address.

Pitchers will be determined later by a combination of voting and commissioner selection.

The All Star Game is the culmination of All Star Week, which also will include the All Star Futures Game, the All Star Celebrity Softball Game, an MLB draft, fan fests, public baseball instruction and music. The Los Angeles Dodgers originally were to host the All Star Game in 2020, but that game was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As of 8 a.m. June 9, the Cincinnati Reds are 20-36 on the 2022 season and no longer in last place in the league (that honor goes to the Kansas City Royals at 18-37).
